CHAPTER ONE
Faith Tanner sat with her eyes closed, hands palm up on her lap,
listening to the class instructor guiding the students through the initial steps of the meditation. Gentle tones of flute music played in the dimly lit room as the instructor, Loni Kingsley, spoke to the nine students, three men and six women, sitting in their chairs forming a group circle. Faith took a couple of deep breaths and began to picture herself on a beach walking alongside the quiet turquoise water. She swore she could actually feel the warmth of the sun on her skin. In the distance she saw a staircase ascending towards the clouds. She walked towards it and started to climb up the stairs. Looking up she saw a platform, and as she stepped onto it she met a man dressed in a white billowy robe. A slight breeze played around his dark hair, which shone in the light of the sun. His emerald eyes wrinkled a bit at the corners as he smiled at her. Faith didn’t know what to say, and the man said nothing. Faith didn’t know what to do. “Uh, hello. Hi, I’m Faith.” That sounds stupid, she said to herself. I wonder if he can hear all of my thoughts. The man just continued to smile. “I don’t know what to say to you. Am I supposed to do something here? Say something here? Am I here?” The man just continued to smile and look deeply into her hazel eyes. Well, okay, I’ll just be on my way, she thought as she mentally began descending the stairs until she reached the bottom. She saw the staircase fade away in her mind’s eye, and then was brought back to the present by Loni’s soft voice. ~ 1 ~ “Imagine the roots extending from your feet are unwrapping from the earth’s core and are rapidly flowing back to the base of your feet, finally back into your body until your feet are normal and firmly on the ground again. Now open your eyes. Did you experience anything? See anyone, anything?” Loni pressed a remote control and the flute music stopped playing. She stood up and turned on the main light switch. A few students blinked at the sudden brightness of the room. Some people in the circle were nodding their heads yes, some still had their eyes closed as if they were still coming out of the meditation. Faith involuntarily felt herself nod “yes.” “What did you see, Sara?” Loni asked? A thin woman in her early sixties, with short graying hair, looked at Loni. “I’m really not sure. I was in a meadow filled with flowers. I tried to picture the staircase, but I had a hard time doing it. All I kept seeing were things flitting by very fast, different colors, and they reminded me of fairies.” Loni replied, “That’s good. You made a connection with the fairy world. That’s a start.” She noticed a couple of students roll their eyes slightly. She continued, “Matter of fact, there is a community, I believe it’s in Switzerland or Denmark, somewhere in that region, that has been working with fairies for a long time, since the seventies. They grew the biggest plant life you’ve ever seen – glorious plants. The fairies gave them instructions on cultivation and agreed to help oversee their garden. I’ll have to find the information and email it to you. It’s quite a phenomenon, but real and documented.” Loni turned her gaze away from Sara, looked briefly at the students that had rolled their eyes and adjusted herself in her black leather chair. She looked around the room. All eyes were on the dark-haired instructor. Faith again wondered how someone a bit young, she estimated in her late twenties or early thirties, could know so much about mediumship, and psychic abilities, and be able to teach it so easily? ~ 2 ~ Especially when Faith had been studying it for almost thirty years and still didn’t understand it all that well. “Faith? Faith, did you experience anything?” Loni asked. Faith tilted her head slightly, bringing her attention back to the class. She pushed a lock of her medium length brown hair away from her face, looked at Loni and replied, “Yes, I think so. I walked up the stairs, as you suggested and came to a platform. A man was standing there. He had the greenest eyes I have ever seen and was dressed in a white robe, but he didn’t say anything to me.” Loni smiled. “He doesn’t have to say anything. The point is you made contact with him. He is one of your guides. That’s awesome!” Loni turned her attention on another student, giving Faith a little time to reflect. It was just about seven-thirty in the evening and class was almost over. Loni gave the students final instructions urging them to do their meditations at home for at least ten minutes a day. “Even if you just make contact for a few minutes with the higher source, it is something. And, some contact is better than no contact. Be sure to say the meditation prayer beforehand so you’re fully protected and remember to ground yourself. Class next week will be on Thursday. Okay, until then, see ya!” Faith stood up and stretched. She glanced at the students in class. Some gathered their belongings and headed for the door, some stood around to speak with each other. It was a small and comfortable class of mixed ages, and she was secretly glad she wasn’t the oldest one. Turning fifty this year had been a little hard for her to accept, which started her on yet another search about life and its mysteries. Somehow it led her to this class making her wonder how these students ended up here as well. Were they all like her questioning life after death, wondering about psychic abilities, and receiving messages from beyond? Or, did they actually feel a calling to do this type of work? All she knew was the energy was good and the people seemed nice. Aside from her friend Sophie, who was taking the class with her, she really didn’t want to get too involved with them on a personal level. This made her, yet again, question why she was there in the first place. I guess one day I’ll find out, she said to herself. ~ 3 ~ You may purchase this book at: www.amazon.com and www.barnesandnoble www.goodreads.com
