White Island, clicked by Sanjay Desai, December 2017
Volcanic Vibe of Life Beacon for the new year A visit to an active volcano sounded fitting and daring, to end a bumpy year, 2017. Like Hell’s Gates of Mordor, stark, rocky, deep red, yellow and fuming, burning and forbidding openings into the Earth leading to Hell’s fire, consuming the grounds, and leaving behind black and grey patches to tell their story. The dormant volcano’s gates were guarded by the foreboding and fuming gases of the fumaroles, CO2, H2S, SO2, HCL; forming acid pools, deadly and death imparting, spawn from life burnt out of earth. But lo and behold, barely a kilometer away, the cooling earth met the gases, intermingling and interacting, spewing steam, sulphates and ashes, carrying minerals, silica and salts, forming mud-pools and sulphur springs, distilling and cooling waters, giving rise to alkaline water streams and lakes, nourishing algae, fish, and other forms, and giving rise to Life again… From Destruction to Creation, Life keeps rising again. Go cool on the Gone, and evoke the evolved New, Embrace 2018, and Make You Happen. - Sanjay Desai, January 2018.
