I’m sure you’ve heard the old saw that police calls and emergency room visits are higher in volume during a Full Moon. The “cradies” are out and running about… it’s looney (from Luna, the Latin word for Moon)! Then there’s the one about ghosties and ghoulies running amok during the dark of the New Moon. But not all Moons are created equal. The most powerful New and Full Moons to touch your life come in the form of Solar and Lunar Eclipses. However, we can’t ignore the other New and Full moons that occur each month, either. They’re very helpful in clearing away issues that seem to create minor complications in our lives. There are issues in your life that seem to follow a pattern and sometimes these issues are hard to sort out or overcome That's where the New and Full Moon can help you work with the changing patterns in your life. Each month we have a New Moon (when the Moon and the Sun occupy the same Sign of the Zodiac and the Sun lights up the back of the Moon so we cant’ see it) followed about 14 days later by a Full Moon (when the Moon occupies the sign opposite the Sun and receives the Sun’s full illumination). When there’s a New Moon, it’s time to begin new projects, initiate contracts, make important phones calls, write up a new proposal or do anything that requires a starting point. It is said the New Moon generates negative ions making us feel better and more willing to begin projects. The magic of the New Moon is that for one day each month - the Sun and the Moon are on exactly the same page. For one day each month both the Moon and the Sun are willing to get together and have a brief conversation about how ‘wants’ and ‘needs’ can be merged, how the subconscious and conscious minds can work together. A New Moon in any area of your Astrology Chart shows you that you need to focus on issues requiring your input. Those born five days on either side of the new moon (in the same sign) can expect to be more strongly affected. Those born further out may only see a small wrinkle in that area. The effects of a New Moon show themselves in outward changes and the effects of a Full Moon are more personal, emotional and directed inward. When the Moon reaches Full two weeks later, efforts will bear fruit. At this time, the Moon's influence on the Earth is only slightly increased. On occasion, this slight increase can be enough to tip the balance and lead to a shake-up for a person, or even a flood of emotions. It’s at this point the positive ions begin to flow and we can feel tired and beleaguered. You should expect a culmination or wrapping up of events to occur within four to five days of the Full Moon’s date. Full Moons close chapters and often bring a sense of finality to life events. You can't have a fresh start without closure somewhere. Without closure, we get bombarded with issues that never end. Our lives become so cluttered things can become chaotic. The closer your birthdate is to the Full Moon, the more marked influence it will have on your life. The energy of any Full Moon can cause you to react emotionally, could leave you anxious or even upset in some way. Because the Moon governs the ebb and flow of the tides (and because human beings are 90% water), it's natural the Moon governs our emotions and reactions. Feelings tend to become more overwhelming during a Full Moon, no matter which sign or house is affected in your Astrology Chart. The Full Moon is in opposition to the Sun and this often results in challenges. These can strengthen our resolve and with effort can be overcome. It can also cause us stress. The energy of the Full Moon usually affects the opposite house in which the Lunation occurs. This is known as polarity. For example, if you have a Full Moon in your 3rd house of communications and local travel, the energy could also affect the opposite house which is the 9th house of long distance travel, legal matters, insurance. It’s important to note this polarity. Let a few days go by after a Full Moon before you make any life changing decisions. Many times we don't have all of the information we need to react the right way. Don’t change the car insurance until you’ve done more research. Take a cooling off period before buying those vanity plates for the car. The Full Moon is endings and completion, but it is also related to conflict between our conscious and subconscious desires. And most of the time subconscious wins! So, once each month, make this work for you. Cross something off that nagging to-do list that keeps playing in the back of your mind. Almost all of us build up this “Must Do” list of things we think we really need to do but are subconsciously dreading and would rather skip completely. At the Full Moon, cross one of those things off your list. Honor the fact that your subconscious feelings don't always line up with your conscious reality. Let's say you feel like you really ought to invite your snooty school friend over for an elegant dinner to show off the remodel job you’ve just done on your house. But deep down you're dreading it and you even know, intuitively, that she doesn't really want to be impressed by your house and your hostess skills - they will only excite a certain envy in her and a desire to criticize. Take advantage of the Full Moon energy and cross that idea off your list - permanently. Even if it seemed like a good idea initially, it wasn't, so let it go. She'll come over on a more relaxed occasion at another time and you can all spare yourself an unnecessary ordeal. Almost everyone has at least one thing they can cross off their list each Full Moon. Check the sign and house positions of each month’s Full Moon for an idea of what you may be able to get rid of. And everything we get rid of that doesn't serve us leaves a little more room for joy See, astrology really can be your friend! |
