American Artisan Festival Announces Chosen Artists for Public Art Installation, Releases Music Lineup
NASHVILLE, Tenn., -- May 21, 2018 -- Today, the American Artisan Festival is pleased to announce Nashville based artists, Beth Reitmeyer and Brett Douglas Hunter have been chosen as this year’s featured art installation creators. Last year, the festival added a powerful large scale site specific public art installation entitled ‘GROW LOVE’ by visiting artists Tracy Ginsberg and Theodore Lillie of Forest Alchemy, and it generated so much community support that the public art feature has become an ongoing feature of the event. “As we looked at this year, we all fell in love with the idea that our visitors can continue to have site specific experiences that elevate the experience of visiting Centennial Park, in addition to collecting the amazing work of our 150 visiting artists,” says Saturn. “Therefore, this year, sculptors, builders and installation or live artists were invited to share their ideas in order to create something new to add to the annual tradition.” Beth Reitmeyer is a visual artist whose public art work features vibrant colors and unique shapes and will be brightening up the landscape of Centennial Park. Born in Colorado, Reitmeyer attended Northwestern University (MFA), The School of the Art Institute (Post-Grad), and Pennsylvania State University (BFA). Recent exhibits include The Elizabeth Foundation, New York, NY; Seed Space, Nashville, Zg Gallery, Chicago, IL; and ArtSpace, Houston, TX. Brett Douglas Hunter is a self-taught artist living and working in Nashville, Tennessee. Originally from Illinois, he comes from a family of self-propelled artists and builders, seemingly destined to be a maker from the start. He dove head first into the world of sculpture, making weird and wonderful creatures using fibrous concrete mixture. He most recently exhibited in group shows at Julia Martin Gallery, and did a residency last February at Alex Lockwood’s Elephant gallery, where he spent a month creating a mixed-media wonderland. “I’m thrilled to be working with both Beth and Brett this year to create unique site-specific installations that will be found throughout the park as you stroll through The American Artisan Festival,” says Saturn. “As far as sharing more details about the art installations, you’ll just have to come and see them for yourselves.” The live music this year will be presented by SESAC and and there will be sixteen live musical performances held throughout the weekend on the SESAC Presents stage. “SESAC has always enjoyed building partnerships where we can create unique programming and showcase our amazing affiliates. The American Artisan Festival has had a long tradition of presenting the best Nashville-based singer-songwriters during this event every June, and I’m sure everyone will enjoy the incredible SESAC line up this year, “ says Shannan Hatch, VP of Creative SESAC Here’s the daily and hourly schedule: Friday 6/15 Schedule: 3:00 PM - The Hobbs Sisters 4:15 PM - The Young Fables 5:30 PM - Jenny Tolman 6:45 PM - Pageant Saturday 6/16 Schedule: 10:30 AM - Stephen Wilson 11:45 AM - Seaforth 1:00 PM - Sugar and Steel 2:15 PM - Nora Collins 3:30 PM - Slings & Arrows 4:45 PM - Lizzy Plotkin 6:00 PM - Szlachetka Sunday 6/17 Schedule: 11:00 AM - Lizzy Plotkin & Sophia Chudacoff 12:15 PM - Jeff Carl 1:30 PM - Ben Danaher 2:45 PM - Erin Enderlin 4:00 PM - Danika & The Jeb Now in its 44th year, American Artisan Festival returns to the front lawn of Nashville’s Centennial Park June 15 through 17th.
