In this sequal to her first book of the Mission from Venus Trilogy, The Wanderers on Earth, gifted author Susan Plunket has achieved that rarest of literary feats, a sequel that's better than the original! Her unique brand of New Age Sci-Fi is just the vacation we all need from this Year Without a Year, and her lithe, rippling prose brings more to life than just her characters, with Jungian insights into dreams and the dance we all dance every day. Not just wonderful: truly full of wonder. This is a novel that combines science fiction, fantasy and travel fiction with themes of spirituality, putting it in the same category as Stranger in a Strange Land by Robert Henlein, The Lathe of Heaven by Ursula Le Guin and A Canticle for Leibowitz by Walter Miller. This isn't just something to read for light entertainment; the narrative interweaves all kinds of Hindu themes, like the concept of twin flames, kundalini and even a form of collective meditation practised through the game Fifth Dimension. These are things I have discussed at length with a friend of mine over the years, and it's interesting to see how closely his observations and personal experiences of the twin flame phenomenon match the way it plays out in The Wanderers on Earth - whether sexual, fraternal, paternal or maternal. I'm also impressed by how the author manages to convey the idea of a fifth and sixth dimension of existence in a way that feels tangible (in that sense it shares some similarities with Slaughterhouse Five); I was never left wondering how these pure bands of light that take human form are different to regular human beings. As this second book opens, the wanderers from the fifth dimension are now incarnate on Earth in the third dimension as 21 year old humans living around the world - in Moscow, New York, London, Tehran, Mumbai, Dublin, Tokyo, and Jerusalem. Growing up they have each had many strange encounters with the dark side, and now suspect they are not from this time and place. When they wake up, they reunite with their twin flames, and remember who they are and why they incarnated. Once awake, they work through a virtual reality game called Fifth Dimension, travelling to hot spots around the world and battle the dark lords to prevent disaster. The author's style is very visual. I could easily envision the beings she described in both the Third and Tifth dimensions. It would easily translate into a movie script! jacquie C You can visit Susan at: https://www.susanplunket.com/ |
