I love to be in nature. I love water. I learned to love meditation. I love myself. There is one place where I can have all of this in one: My favorite lake in Berlin. I try to get there at least 3 x a week during summertime, and a little less frequently the rest of the year.
Usually, I try to be there early in the morning, before all the moms and toddlers arrive, the school kids arrive in the afternoon. The lake is located in a wood and the trees go all the way down to the waterside. So there are natural bays so you can be almost alone at times. One bigger beach is on the opposite end so it doesn´t bother at all.
I deeply enjoy it all. The feeling of sand or roots under my feet, the chilly water waving around me, looking into the top of the trees, lying on my back. The birds in the trees or swimming in the water, even the small fishes joining me, when I swim. And most of all the silence.
No better place for grounding or balancing your root chakra than a meditation, sitting in the water, slightly moved by the waves, and a soft breeze touching your face. I can do it forever.
Unfortunately for me, last week the school holidays started in Berlin and the kids were there very early.
First I felt really upset. How dare they! Breaking into MY silent retreat! My first reaction was: Let me get out of here. But then I decided to stay and see what was going on. Shifting my perspective from “I want silence and peace” to “Let me watch the people”, this was something I really missed during the lockdown. Strange that I had to remember myself about that. Seems like I got used to loneliness a bit too much.
And that was a good, a great decision. Starting to look around with open eyes and an open heart I really enjoyed it, it was a spiritual experience. The first thing I realized was the fun and happiness everybody showed, no matter if kids, parents, everybody had fun. No matter how old, if in the water or outside, some wearing bathing suits, others just regular shorts, or even only underwear (no big deal in Germany). Some Muslim moms were fully clothed, standing knee-high in the water, playing ball with their kids. And all had fun, were happy, enjoyed themselves.
No aggressions, no yelling at each other, no mad faces or bad moods. Just fun and happiness all over. The noises that made me feel uncomfortable and had disturbed me first, were actually expressions of pure joy.
It was such a holistic experience, seeing these people expressing, experiencing, and living, what I tried to achieve with my meditation. To me, it was a glimpse into paradise. A prove of what is possible. I got high, only by channeling the positive vibrations. I did not only bathe in the water, I had a deep dive into high vibrations, love, and positivity.
That doesn´t mean, being there in the morning, enjoying the silence, isn´t my thing anymore. Not at all. I do and will continue to do this. But I opened up a bit more, again, to be open to new experiences. To go with the flow.
The lesson of the day: Check your expectations, step out of your comfort zone, take a leap of faith! There are awesome things you can only discover outside your regular path. No matter if you walk it or think it.
Let the universe surprise you with awesome experiences. They won´t happen on your sofa (usually).
See you next month !
