Charles E. Davis What lights you up? What are you passionate about? A year ago, I asked myself these questions and I had a variety of things come up for me, but I really wasn’t sure just what, from them all, I should focus on. What comes up for you when you ask yourself these questions? Maybe you are like me and you get a bunch of answers, but are unsure of which one or ones are really the ones to focus on, or, maybe you are the opposite, you don’t really have a clue what you really want from life, you just know it is something more than what you have now. Either way, read on, you might find a way to finally really nail what your passion and purpose in life is. There are really 3 easy steps to discovering what is most important to you, in your life, right now. Before we get into the steps, let me first mention that this should be a journey filled with ease. Self discovery, which is really what we are about to do, is a process that, if forced, will actually seem to push you further away from the result you are seeking. So, relax, have fun, let the process unfold naturally, organically and as it is meant to. Don’t rush things, it has taken you a lifetime to get to where you are now, taking time to really tap into your true passions will pay dividends for the rest of your life. Also, know that once you do get clear about what you are most passionate about, things will begin to happen, fast, that will bring you into alignment with your vision. One of my top passions is to teach large workshops, worldwide, to audiences of 100 or more people. I didn’t have a clue how that was going to happen or when, but I just knew I really wanted it to. When I went through the process I am about to lay out here for you and identified this vision of myself, wrote it down, focussed on it an then let it go into the Universe, it was about 2 weeks later that I got asked to teach a workshop in Kobe Japan, to 140 people. I was dumbstruck when I first got the invitation. This coming year (2019), I will be doing workshops in Malaysia and Korea, as well as Toronto and Vancouver, Canada. Living your passions can be your reality too! Let’s get into these steps then, shall we? The first step might take a little bit, but you want to draw from a variety of places in your life, to come up with a list of those things that interest you. Maybe this is easy for you, you can just sit and make a list. Great! Make your list at least 10 items long. If you don’t know where to start or have only 1 or 2 things on your list, then look at things you really enjoy doing. What brings you pleasure now? What about when you were a child? What types of things did you like doing? Remember, your passions should not just be about one thing or area. Look at all areas of your life. • Health • Relationship • Spirituality • Career/money • Family • Recreation Look also at your talents and gifts. What are you good at? What is so natural for you to do? You might do something that is so natural, you don’t even consider it as a talent. You can ask others who know you, what they think are your talents, what jumps out at them. Work on your list until you have at least 10 passions, desires, things you want to do, on it. Make sure that each interest on your list is unique and not just restated from another on your list. The second step is to reword your list. You want to take everything on your list and word it like this “When I am living my most ideal life, I am …………………………………………………….” For example “When I am living my most ideal life, I am living in a beautiful paid for home on the beachfront of Kauai.” Or “When I am living my most ideal life, I am with my ideal mate in a caring and loving relationship.” So, redo your list to add this. Make sure you make your list concise. If you want a relationship, make sure it is the one you really want. Loving, caring, ideal mate rather than “I want a relationship with a mate.” If you use the second one, you might just get a relationship with a mate, but not the relationship you really desire. Be as specific as you can without going on and on. Keep it short too. It should be one sentence that can be read quickly. There is no reason at this point to list your passions in any order. Just write them as they came up, but do use the tips above and reword them. For the third step, you want to find a friend to help you with the next part. Maybe this could be someone who is also working on this list for themselves. This part works much better than doing it on your own, in fact, it is really essential to have someone to work with on this. Give this person your list. They are going to read it to you. It is important that you reply with the first thing that comes to mind. Do not take time to think about the choices here, just go with the first thing that comes up. Here is how this will work. The person reading your list to you will begin with the first 2 things on your list. Let’s say they are the above examples. This is how it will go. Your passion partner will say this: “What is more important to you right now? When I am living my most ideal life, I am living in a beautiful paid for home on the beachfront of Kauai. Or When I am living my most ideal life, I am with my ideal mate in a caring and loving relationship.” You are to choose which one resonates with you the most. They will then take that choice and move to the next thing on your list. Let’s say that is the relationship and the next thing is to own a Tesla “S” model car. They will then say to you: “What is more important to you right now? When I am living my most ideal life, I am with my ideal mate in a caring and loving relationship. Or. When I am living my most ideal life, I own a Tesla “S” model car.” You choose from these two things the one that resonates most for you. Your passion partner the uses that choice and gives you another choice between what you just chose and the next passion on your list. You continue down the list until you have come up with one choice. That choice is what you are most passionate about right now, in this moment. Write it down somewhere and then take it off of your original list of 10 or more passions. Then, you begin the process over again, starting at the top of the list, comparing the first two passions, finding which you resonates with you the most, moving to the next and so on, until you have come up with your top 5 passions. (Basically, go through the list 5 times) You now have a list with your top 5 passions on it. Congratulations!! You are now ready to take the steps to live your ideal life. Everything I listed above is not original, in fact, these are the steps I took after reading a book called “The Passion Test” by Chris and Janet Attwood.
