Barbara Berger Here at the start of a new year, we can ask ourselves what we can do in the coming year to be of service to our fellow men and women. By changing our focus from "what's in it for me" to "how can I serve", each one of us can contribute to making this world a better place.
When we do inner work and discover more and more who we really are… and are experiencing our Higher Selves more and more, experiencing the deep peace which is our nature, opening our hearts to Love wherever we go—we also discover that we can be of service too, regardless of who we are or where we are. Each one of us has special talents and unique gifts. So it's really quite easy to discover how you can serve in every situation—all you have to do is shift your focus from thinking "what's in it for me" to "how can I serve, how can I help or contribute in this situation". You will find the answer by asking yourself questions like: - What is the Highest Good here? - What is the best possible outcome in this situation? - and - What can I do to help make the best possible outcome manifest? When we focus on the fact that we're all interconnected—all One being—all sharing life and evolution here on the Earth plane, it becomes much easier to think and feel like this. It is really only separation thinking that makes people think and act as if their Good must be achieved at the expense of someone else's Good. This is short-term, limited, egocentric thinking. Anyone who has eyes to see knows that life on Planet Earth cannot survive this kind of egocentric separation thinking much longer. The truth of the matter is this: The Good of One is the Good of All. And the sooner we all realize the implications of this truth, the better. Each and every one of us has special talents and unique gifts. Each and every one of us has our own unique way of doing things—and each and every one of us always finds ourselves in situations that offer us many unique opportunities to use these special talents and gifts to benefit the larger community and ourselves. Ask Your Inner Wisdom How You Can Serve A good way to receive clear guidance is to ask your inner wisdom, your Higher Self, during meditation how you can serve. Start by sitting comfortably, relaxing and breathing deeply. Once you are relaxed, ask your inner wisdom for guidance as to how you can serve in general—or ask for specific guidance as to how you can serve in specific situations. For many, it will be easiest to start by asking for guidance about specific situations first. This is what you do: Take a situation that is bothering you, for example a situation at work and then picture this situation in detail in your mind's eye. Then ask your inner wisdom how you can be of service in this situation. You can say to yourself: How can I serve here? What would be the best possible outcome in this situation? What is the Highest Good here and how can I contribute to bringing about the Highest Good? Then just relax and breathe. Don't have any preconceived ideas as to what the answers to these questions might be or should be. Just relax, breathe and surrender to your inner wisdom and you'll find ideas and images just pop into your head from Out of the Blue, so to speak! Often the guidance will surprise you. Your first reaction might be... but I couldn't possibly do that... but then, on closer inspection you'll find that, yes indeed, you could do exactly that and that doing exactly that is precisely what will lead to the Highest Good manifesting in the situation in the most unexpected ways. Besides asking for guidance in specific situations, you can also use this type of meditation in a more general way. Of course you are already aware of at least some of the things you're good at—and of some of the ways you can serve... but there is always more—more ways, more opportunities, greater Good and more situations in which you can facilitate this Good by asking yourself how you can be of service. Envision a Positive Outcome Often being of service does not necessarily involve taking specific action or a specific activity. Rather it simply involves focusing your attention on the Highest and Best—on Love and Light—in the situation or in the people involved instead of focusing your attention on limitation. This shift in focus is one of the highest forms of service you can perform. And when you focus on the Highest and Best, let the other people involved know it. Tell them you think we can do better. Ask them what they think the best possible outcome could be in this situation. Ask them what they feel is the Highest Good here? And then suggest that everyone works together to achieve it. In this type of situation, it's important to keep envisioning a positive outcome—regardless of what is going on and regardless of the focus of others. (And even if you cannot share your thoughts or your focus with the other people.) Don't let yourself get bogged down in limitation thinking. See and envision your contribution facilitating a positive outcome. Send Love and Light into the situation when you meditate. And then remember how powerful you are. Remember your true nature, who you really are. Remember that you're not a victim of haphazard outer events that are beyond your control. Remember that you are the Choice-Maker in your Life and a Co-Creator here on Planet Earth. Then focus on the Highest and Best—focus on Love and Light—and go for it! All Blessings to you in 2019!
