An excerpt from the book Whole-Ass: Stop living a half-assed life and enjoy an extraordinary existence. So you can play your part in making the world a better place
By Maharani Consciousness: The source of All-Assness The real you is always present. Stop right now and look at whatever you have in front of you. Are you able to see it? Good. That reality is the only reality you have right now. Now, stand up and walk to yesterday. Donīt worry, Iīll be here waiting for you to come back. Whatīs that? You canīt do it? How odd! You mean yesterday is not a reality right now? Interesting. The same thing happens if I ask you to go to the future. You might say that you can go there with your imagination, and sure, you can, but is it real? Right now, is the future real? Can you look up and be in the future? Access to linear time is only a projection, so it doesnīt matter if we go backward or forwards. The way to access your consciousness is through the gateway of now, which is great news, because you donīt have to go anywhere to access the biggest, and only real, part of yourself. You donīt even need to get into your car to get there. Your consciousness is literally closer than your next breath.
Staying in the reality of now starts revealing your true self. Your true self is whole-ass by nature. It doesnīt want to miss a moment. It doesnīt waste time with fears, excuses or rejection issues. It doesnīt waste a split-second exploring the dead tenses, because it knows they donīt even exist anymore. Ultimately, the way to create a perfect future is by creating a perfect present. Once you are actually residing in the now, youīll see that there isn’t a need to create anything, because the moment is already perfect. Yes, even that one when the waiter brings you cold lasagna. By taking this approach, you get to be a witness to this magnificent miracle in front of you: life. You might think that you are always in the present moment because this is where your body is, and you might think that you are actually living your life because, hey, you are in it. But… Where is your attention most of the time?
If your attention resides in the constant present, you have all the energy at your disposal because itīs not being sucked up by imaginary dragons. The most whole-ass people I know regard exploration of consciousness as their foundation, and that is no accident. This moment is the only playground you can actually be in. It is the only place that you can interact with, respond to and shape. Try it. Go interact with the past or respond to the future. You canīt. We have been conditioned to believe that reality resides in our thinking mind, but itīs so simple to prove the opposite. No matter how many ideas you change, no matter how your beliefs and interpretations of life change during your life, the only tangible place you can actually be in is the present moment. Whole-ass this moment forever, and it will result in you whole-assing your whole
life. The only way to give yourself fully to this moment, to be a total moment whole-asser, is by rewiring your attention and learning to keep it right here, right now. Itīs really surprising to me when I see people craning their necks towards the floor, holding a device in their hands as they access a virtual reality, where only their sight and hearing are involved. We are constantly choosing to escape the present moment, to extract ourselves from it, and then we wonder why we long for connection and satisfaction. The illusion of social media has us searching for fulfillment in yet another mirage. We keep painting perfection by posting pictures of a happy life, when in truth there have been challenges the whole week. We look for value in every single “Like” we get, and every comment received. Have you ever tried to engage in conversation with someone who is looking at his or her phone? No matter how much they claim to be paying attention to you, you can feel that they’re not even in the room! I am aware that I am not saying anything new, nor am I looking to condemn the use of technology. I sure use it a lot myself, but I am stressing this point so that you can discover how life is lived fully by being completely present. Life is full, the moment is so full, and yet you are not eating from it. You are constantly being distracted from the now, and then you go to bed wondering why you feel empty, no matter what you achieved during the day. You always feel hungry, but you can’t eat at the deluxe buffet if you don’t show up. Being conscious is rediscovering the ability to show up to your own life.
