Reena Kumarasingham Last year, during the seemingly endless days of being on lock down, it’s given so many of us so much time to reflect. One of the things that I have been reflecting on is my relationship with spirit – and really closely examining what that means. I suppose this was something that was triggered and started this reflection was actually while I was writing my books – Shrouded Truth, The Magdalene Lineage and Divine Consciousness. While I was involved in the rational aspects of doing the most thorough research I possibly can, and pulling the fascinating accounts and stories together, the deeper essence and meaning of the teachings that came through was put in my back burner. That is until the long hours in lockdown. Drilling down to the essence of the books, it is actually a message about our relationship with our spirit, and what it entails. The crux of the teachings of Jesus, Mary Magdalene, and James the Righteous is about developing a relationship with our spirit. At the end of the day, what I realised that they were saying is that to get to know and connect to our spirit, we have to strip ourselves bare. This includes discarding our protective mechanisms like our ego, silence our minds and belief systems and unpeeling the layers of our emotions, laying them total bare and standing courageously in our vulnerabilities Only once we are completely naked will we get a glimpse of our spirit. Only with complete openness and will our spirit emerge into the light. It is really the most simple of relationships, and the most difficult to attain. Having grown up a Hindu, I have always wondered by the great Yogis in India would retreat into the mountains, living an ascetic, hermit life. I was told that they wanted to leave the distractions of everyday life to focus on their spirit. Now, I realised that they did that to be able to strip themselves bare to the core, to glimpse and develop a relationship with their own spirit – their soul within. The distractions of our daily modern lives really does make it difficult to focus on developing a relationship with our spirit. We are weighed down by responsibilities, chores, egoic accessories and so much external noise, that we are unable to find that sustained silence of the mind and the heart to take the first step towards meeting our spirit. This is why it was during the long days in lock down, where the hours and days rolled into one another, when the distractions were minimised, that I could finally find the silence and stillness to realise that to sincerely develop a real relationship with my spirit I have to be prepared to strip bare. I learned through the teachings contained in my books that stripping bare is about letting go of philosophical discussions of the mind and getting in touch with our heart. It is said that the journey from our head to our heart is the longest that we go on. Once we get in touch with our heart, we can stand in openness to love our whole being, warts and all. Then… only then can we start developing that seemingly elusive relationship with our spirit. Once we are in touch with our spirit, and establish a solid relationship with our spirit, we can shine our radiant lights – no matter what the situation is on the outside. When we are solid and firm with our spirit, very little will distract us from our centre and equilibrium. Such a simple concept but yet I have realised that I have put very distracting obstacles in my path which has prevented me from achieving this. The wonderful thing about one day rolling into another is that I have realised that it is not too late, and it will never be too late for us to embark on the journey to really, truly develop a relationship with our spirit. It might be all scary and uncertain in the world outside, but on the inside, our spirit is stable, secure, silent and sure. Our spirit can be our anchor as we navigate these changing times together. What a wonderful gift the relationship with our spirit gives to us. Bio : Radiant Light Series is comprised of three books – Shrouded Truth, The Magdalene Lineage and Divine Consciousness.
