![]() As human beings, each of us is evolved from a single cell that is created, nourished, and protected by our mother. This unique cell becomes an infant, a toddler, an adolescent, then reaches maturity, and ages gradually until time brings us to the ultimate destination. This process has repeated billions of times, creating similar yet different stories. All the love and hate, happiness and sadness, joy and pain, success and failure, fitness and sickness, families and enemies, friends and foes… are condensed in the short period when we are wearing flesh. The experiences and memories generated through living drive us forward and make us who we are. Therefore, no matter how much we care about the afterlife, most, if not all, of us love this life and wish to extend it as long as possible. We didn’t choose when and where to be born but here we are, alive and living. Sadly, sufferings from diseases, aging, and death are unavoidable during our time on Earth. Life is good when we can enjoy it with the body, which is almost continuously bothered by unfortunate illnesses and sicknesses. Like an inevitable curse, these annoying troubles break us up, bit by bit, until the body is unable to recall and restore its past health and youth. Eventually, the body has to lie down for one last time. To healthily and youthfully live as long as possible is the ultimate human goal. It is an advanced appetence of the primitive animal instinct. A healthy, youthful, and long life is extensively worshiped in Mesopotamian poems, Taoist scriptures, Hindu philosophy texts, love stories, and pop music lyrics. Thus, from ancient days to the modern age, from east to west, people are eagerly seeking a path to it. As a result, numerous wonderful religions, healthy lifestyles, biological research projects, dietary supplements, nutrition blogs, and cardio gyms are born. We all want to live happier, younger, healthier, and longer. However, in practice, the pursuit of a long and healthy life is always shadowed by repeated daily duties, tasks, and works. Not surprisingly, those who are not enslaved by common human burdens, like great ancient emperors, choose to spend tremendous efforts to seek paths to immortality. Yet, they all failed. Chinese emperors are good examples. The very first Chinese emperor, Qin Shi Huang (259-210 BCE), was deluded by the elixir of life and spent countless amounts of money and resources on Fang Shu (alchemy and witchcraft). He sent thousands of people into the vast oceans to seek gods on fabled islands, hoping to get the elixir of immortality. He also tried suspicious medications prescribed by court alchemists to recover his youth. With all these efforts, he passed away at 50. Likewise, many Chinese emperors were fearless drug testers. They usually died miserably due to intoxication. Although we live in a modern age, we are not much better than these ancient figures in seeking healthy longevity. While we can escape Earth’s gravity and send people to the universe, we are still trapped in the human body and waiting for our end times to come. Thus, it is not surprising that supermarkets are loaded with numerous dietary supplements and the internet is filled with countless articles about healthy lifestyles. It is our sincere hope that the body can be made healthier and better by dietary supplements with hard-to-pronounce chemical names or lifestyle articles from niche exotic health gurus. However, dietary supplements always print “statements have not been evaluated by the FDA” in tiny font sizes at the back of their labels, while exotic health gurus probably will give up their lifestyles eventually. Still, there is no simple path to healthy youthful longevity and we have to bear the fear of age and death. We want to live longer, but how? Why do we have to pitifully grow older and older after the beautiful youth that is strong and magnificent? The answer to this question is very straightforward: we don’t rule the body. Although we are the most amazing and powerful species on Earth, we still are the humble servants of our DNA. Yes, we are the HUMBLE servants of DNA, just like other animals, plants, fungi, bacteria, or any other things governed by DNA on this planet. All living things are operated and regulated by their DNA. We are no different. I would like to personify the assembly of all the natural biological DNA on Earth as the DNA master. The personification of a big company of macromolecules may seem unreasonable and against scientific principles. Certainly, DNA molecules are just organic polymers, like rubbers and plastics. Even the assembly of them does not have any purpose or intelligence. However, DNA molecules have achieved the greatest miracle in the universe that is beyond any purpose or intelligence. With the magic of random mutations and the coincidence of natural selection, the assembly of DNA has lead biology through the evolutionary tree and produced countless organisms. From the highest mountain to the deepest ocean, from burning deserts to frozen glaciers, we can find the designs and footprints of different DNA molecules. Thus, if survival is the purpose of life, this purpose is no doubt rooted in DNA. Moreover, DNA molecules have embedded intelligence so that individual organisms can strive through difficulties and adapt to distinct environments to survive and live on Earth. Therefore, life is like a magnificent symphony that is composed of brilliant combinations of simple genetic notes. The composer of this great symphony is the DNA master and we all are a part of Its play. Although we are actively participating in Its symphony, we don’t know the exact purpose of the DNA master since It does not seem to have one. However, to exist, to survive, and to live appear to be Its goal, as the DNA master has whispered inside all living beings. How to Rejuvenate and Live Three Hundred Years and Beyond.
