COULD AN AGE OF MYSTICISM AND SPIRITUALITY PREVENT WAR? By Stephen William. IT IS ONE OF  THE OLDEST STANDING AND STILL USED CHURCH BUILDINGS IN BRITAIN. IT WAS BUILT BY SAINT CEDD IN CE (AD) 654.   I live in the County of Essex in England only about 20 miles from the above pictured rugged ancient church. It stands nearly a mile from the village of Bradwell-on -Sea near the shoreline of the sea. It was built by Saint Cedd , the then Bishop of Essex in CE (AD) 654 from the stones of the ruined Roman fort of Othona. Britain had ceased to be a part of the Roman Empire over a century before. The symbolism of building a Christian church  , of the religion which had been founded by the man who had said “Blessed be the Peacemakers” in The SERMON ON THE MOUNT from the ruins of a military building of a cruel occupying Empire is quite apparent . You do not have to be particulary spiritual or religious to be affected by this ancient place of worship and its surroundings. It stands well away from human habitation in a flat landscape that is buffeted by strong breezes from the seashore. It appears to be a beacon of spirituality and refuge in an austere and very often  cold, but somehow beautiful landscape.  It has an otherworldly atmosphere surrouding it ,which only the most insensitve would fail to recognise. However, only , only a few hundred yards away, another more recent historical building stands. It is a concrete bunker machine gun post nicknamed a “pilbox” because of their shape in local slang. This was built around 1940 in anticipation of an attempted Nazi German seaborne invasion in what became World War II . After the defeat of the French by the Nazi onslaught in 1940, a potential Nazi German invasion was very possible. The UK and its Commonwealth were pitted directly against the Anti-Semitic ,racist and genocidal Nazi Germany and its aliies. This machine gun post was one of the hastily built defence measures to defend against  a Nazi invasion. THE WORLD WAR II CONCRETE MACHINE GUN POST SITUATED A SHORT WALKING DISTANCE OF THE 1400 HUNDRED YEAR OLD CHURCH. THE CONTRAST OF PEACE AND WAR IS STRIKING. Fortunately the British Royal Air Force defeated the much larger German Airforce ( called the  “Luftwaffe”)  in September 1940 in the famous “Battle of Britain” and the threat of invasion receded and  indeed never happened. Yet nearly 1400 years after the St Peter’s Chapel was built for the religion of the Prince of Peace, two supposedly Christian countries were fighting each other in a World War for the second time in less than 30 years!  Why was this? Why were the supposedly core messages of the joint religion of both countries such “Love they neighbour as thyself” and “ Thou shall not kill”  so ignored that two huge wars that were so costly in human misery , resources and money should occur so closely together?   It could be said that these two countries were dragged into World War I by their obligations to other countries via various alliances. However, World War II was caused by the totally inhumane behaviour of the Nazis who wanted world domination and the extermination or enslavement of various races and were willing to gain these objectives by almost constant war and invasion. How after nearly 1400 years of Christainity did anyone in Germany think they were moral and humane ideals to hold?  Church going and religious observance were far higher in Germany at time, as in most countries, so why did the ideas of Nazism have such hold on the millions of people who supported the Nazis in Germany ,as evidenced by the filmed mass rallies in support of them from that time?   The problem with faith based religions  it is easy to “put them in a box” when it is convenient to do so. As even the most fervent adherent of whatever religion is their particular “faith” do when there is no modern tangible proof of it’s spiritual existence. Just texts which are very often thousands of years old ,about people and happenings who many respected historians say there is no independent proof of their existence. So when a charismatic demagogue spouting superfically attractive ,but evil nationalistic and racist propaganda emerges ,it appears a certain percentage of a country’s population (and it has not just occurred in Hitler’s Germany ) “suspend belief” in their learnt moral teachings and follow blindly the new “path” set before them. Mystical people with direct spirtual experience know that the spiritual dimension to existence actually exists. We know that an afterlife exists and that possibly some form of Eternal Moral Principle may govern it and the physical dimension of existence. This does not of course make mystical people “saints”, we all have real human faults, I am not excluding myself from this! We also have all met other “mystical folk” who sometimes seem to feel there are separate rules for themselves and different ones for everyboy else! However, we cannot escape our knowledge of the spiritual dimension and sometimes the criticism of passed loved ones when we are behaving badly. This hopefully keeps us from performing  very evil and cruel acts. People without mystical knowledge do not have that advantage . Even the most sincere conventional believer in modern times has doubts about the reality of the religion they very often have  followed all their lives or have adopted. It at times becomes purely a theoretical concept when they are under pressure from other influences and sometimes disappears from their thinking. For people of no faith or religion at all although some in many ways  are upright and good people , they do not have quite the external moral compass as people with spiritual awareness or belief. Non-Spiritual dictatorial leaders of nations appear to have an obsession with war or at least the threat of war. Hitler the leader of Germany during World War II is a historical example , but there are various modern national leaders that also have the same outlook . President Kim of North Korea is an obvious example.  The state is officially atheist and that appears to be his personal status as well as the position of his father and grandfathe,r the two previous leaders of North Korea since Korea split into North and South Korea.  He is a man obessed by war and preparing for it. North Korea although a country of only 26 million people has the fourth largest armed forces in the world! Only China, the United States and India have larger forces. These countries of course all have populations of hundreds of millions . North Korea also has developed nuclear weapons and  missiles to deliver them to long range targets. This is despite facing no nuclear threats from any of its close neighbours. As it is a small population country ,this colossal military expenditure has left the majority of the population very poor  and frequently facing famine . This is in complete contrast to South Korea which has a high average standard of living and plenty of available food. President Kim is a man who glorifies war and constantly prepares for it ,despite always drawing back from actually declaring it or doing enough to provoke it. This is done purely to keep him in power. He brainwashes his people into believing that non-existent enemies are constantly about to attack them, so that is the reason why they must endure long periods of poverty or even starvation as part of the “national effort” to divert all national resources into having  an absurdly large military structure of both personnel and weaponry . It is very much like the situation  described in George Orwell’ s novel about a miiltary dictatorship published in 1949 , the seminal and now world famous “1984.”  Constant war or threat of war and imaginary enemies everywhere inside and outside the state. Kim has even cruelly murdered his own aunt and uncle and even one of his own brothers! How could a man with any spiritual insight or awareness of an Eternal Law behave like this? In the book” 1984 ,” (It was written in 1948 and the title was arrived at by reversing the last two numbers it was merely meant to mean sometime in the future, not an actual date) a very dictatorial society  has emerged in Britain and North America which strongly resembles the North Korean regime of today.  Phrases such “Big Brother is watching you,” ” Thought Police,”  “Double Think” etc. have entered into common language and Big Brother the cruel dictator of this society resembles President Kim in his behaviour. However, what is often not noticed about this novel is the virtual absence of spirtuality or religion in the book. Just as in North Korea today religion and spirituality are passingly mentioned and suppressed and ridiculed by the government. The superstate of Oceania that Big Brother rules over is also in a permanent state of of war or preparing for a new one .There is no sacred emotion that the mass destruction of fellow human beings is wrong. Here again another similarity with North Korea. President Kim often poses with his latest missile , latest nuclear device or some other expensively produced weapon as the photograph below illustrates . You will notice his well-fed face (some would say over-fed) grinning in contrast to the gaunt features of the faces of his fellow underfed  North Koreans  over this supposed “triumph” for the North Korean people .  Whilst in fact it contributes only to their poverty. If he had mystical experiences he would realise that there are greater achievements to existence both in this world and the next . He would also have perhaps have deceased family members (not his father or grandfather obviously, they were cruel tyrants like him!) imploring him to take a different path in life.  Perhaps to undo some of the harm his father and grandfather had done? He would also realise that he may have to face some of his victims in the afterlife and make some kind of amends. In case you think I am just parroting pro-Western propaganda , much of what we know about Kim and North Korea comes from China, as contact with Western news agenicies is mainly  banned. There is another prominent  vainglorious non- spiritual national leader , President Putin of the Russian Federation. After “sponsoring” various destructive proxy wars such as Syria and murdering his own domestic political opponents and also murdering exiled Russians abroad,   he decided to invade his neighbouring nation  and former fellow member of the Soviet Union ,Ukraine. Despite describing the Ukrainians as “Slavic brothers” he also said they had been taken over by  “Neo-Nazis “ as a justifacation for the invasion. This is despite the Ukrainian President being Jewish! As we now know the war between the two nations has become a huge humanitarian disaster with thousand of deaths on both sides as the Ukrainians defiantly defend their country. It has caused huge price rises in food and other products around the world as Ukraine’s food exports have been disrupted and other countries have switched away from importing from Russia in protest at the invasion. Surely if Putin had mystical knowledge and advice he would not have led such a cruel life and embarked on a war that is not only unjust, but weakened his own country . Some will say that President Putin sometimes appears to be traditionally religious, by being photographed with Russian Orthodox Church leaders and making vaguely religious statements. However I believe that is deliberately misleading by himself, as he was a high ranking officer in the notoriously brutal  KGB when the Soviet Union still existed .He was also known for his ruthless behaviour , for example he and his men threatened to open fire on unarmed East German protesters who were protesting outside the Soviet Embassy in East Berlin. The protest not surprisingly dispersed after that threat! The Soviet Union ,like North Korea was officially an atheist state  and also surpressed traditional religions and mystical spirituality when it could. Therefore to attain high rank in the KGB you had to be a publicly declared atheist. I do not believe he has had a miraclous conversion since he has become national leader. In fact when he became head of the FSB , the Russian Federation’s successor to the KGB ,his behaviour was still known to be brutal. It seems you can take the boy out of the KGB , but you cannot take the KGB out of the boy! In fact in many ways he seems to have turned  the Russian Federation into the society depicted in Orwell’s novel “1984” like North Korea. Always preparing for war or actually at war ,  imaginary enemies everywhere who have to be liquidated if caught and of course a totally bleak and souless approach to any situation which could be solved more peacefully by humane and transcendant means.  The character of Putin comes across as a total materialistic approach with no spiritual awareness at all. He only appears to court the company of religious leaders because although the religions of the old Soviet Union were surpressed and maligned by the government they remained popular discreetly and Putin like most dictatorial leaders require public support to stop any uprising against them to be successful. CONSTANTLY PREPARING FOR WAR ,WHILST THEIR PEOPLE LIVE IN POVERTY AND LIVE IN FEAR OF THE  “STATE SECURITY  SERVICES.” So can Mysticism provide any solution to prevent War?  Direct spiritual experience provides proof of another dimension to existence. It also provides proof of an afterlife and the transient  phase of our physical life. That does not mean that this life in unimportant ,for it is in this life we forge our character. Nobody knows the exact nature or format of the afterlife. But it appears to not to have the same dangers, worries and not forgetting emotional pleasures and rewards that we experience in this life.  But from the contact we have with the departed, their personality is formed in this existence. Their shared memories of their life here and how they relate them to us is how we are able to correctly identify them . Therefore our life here is important ,even if it is only temporary. If war mongering tyrants were aware that there is an afterlife and the purely material  and sometimes cruelly obtained rewards of this life are purely  transient , they probably not commit such acts. Even the most competent medium or mystic cannot be sure if there are any sanctions or indeed punishment in the afterlife. If there is, it may not be constant torture or hellfire as traditionally preached (which appears to be  inherited from previous heathen religions) ,but no entry to the afterlife (spiriitual  extinction) or an eternal guilt which can never be erased or something else. Many mediums have encountered an  unhappy spirit  begging forgiveness from their client or sitter who is reluctant to give it.  If a tyrant had such knowledge through direct spiritual knowledge would they  actaully be a tyrant or relentlessly cruel? You may think but “war mongering cruel rulers have often apparently had spiritual beliefs and it did not stop them from their warlike lifestyle!” However their spiritual beliefs were normally framed within conventional non-direct spiritual contact religions.  In such a scenario ,it was  easy to be a “Sabbatical Believer”.  I define this as whichever Sabbath day in the week their religion decrees they should take part in public worship , they attend their church ,temple, mosque,synagogue etc. and pray ,sing religious songs or may even read out loud a religious text. They may even  chat to the minister who conducted the service at the end of the period of worship. They then go back to their vile ways for the rest of the week ,until the next Sabbath day! That is because they do not really believe ! They have no proof, so it is easy to feel they will not ever face censure or be betraying any Divine Law or spirItually inspired moral code. And even if there is REALLY something  “out there” ,well they regularly ask forgiveness on their Sabbath Day , so everything could be okay! However for those us who have had direct spirtual or mystical experience we know the reality of the supernatural dimension. Of course it does not make us mystics perfect human beings. However we are aware that we even if we are concealing our misdeeds it is being observed elsewhere by at least one departed forebear who will let us know what they think when we seek contact. I feel sure that direct mystic knowledge would help prevent many wars .It would also promote universal comradeship. Spiritual practice would cease to be  a hypothetical concept. Everybody would KNOW we are ALL spiritual beings albeit in this existence, in a physical body , with all the challenges that presents. If we realised we are all on the same form of journey perhaps that would promote common empathy of our  fellow human beings and their problems. Perhaps also it may bring about universal peace which people of good intentions haved talked about for thousands of years , but that we have never actually got near to achieving. If the waste of war of both lives and resources was eliminated,  perhaps we could move on to eliminating hunger and most diseases as well? Mystic practice if it was accepted by the majority of the developed world would enhance the human race’s chances of achieving this.  Mysticism and Science could both work in tandem to achieve a better world. It may be hard to believe this would be possible, but the human race has already achieved some “miracles” of a physical kind in the past 250 years. We have harnessed the power of electricity which has improved human existence in many myriad ways. We  have many have forms of artficially powered transport. In fact in this time, we have discarded the original one mainly (steam) in favour of more advanced methods. We have cured and prevented many former killer diseases. Smallpox, TB, Measles,Polio etc.  In some countries of the world the diseases I have named , have been eliminated. We have even put people into Outer Space and landed them on the Moon!  Anyone living before the 1760s would be amazed by the progress we have made and would say it was impossible by the standards of their time. So why is trying to achieve a peaceful,healthy and well- fed  world seen as impossible? You may be thinking if the spiritual realm were so concerned about war and its negative aspects, why have they not given us any practical help to eliminate it and ensure that evil aggressors do not succeed in their terrible objectives? Well apart from inspiring hundred of religious texts around the world promoting the concept of peaceful behaviour, which the majority of people in practical terms ignore , I think it has , especially in the modern period. I mentioned at the beginning of this article that the Battle of Britain took place mainly in the month of September 1940 and  Britain’s  Royal Air Force (RAF) despite having brave pilots and superb fighter planes ,the famous Spitfires and Hurricanes, they were very heavily outnumbered. The Nazi German airforce(Luftwaffe) were ordered to bomb Britain into a ruin, so the planned German seaborne invasion could take place with minimal resistance. However a near miraculous victory for the British took place and so many German planes were shot down ,so by October 1940 the Germans dramtically reduced their air operations over Southern England and the expected German invasion never took place. Therefore the above pictured concrete Machine Gun Post near the ancient church never saw action! It  was also the first time that  the evil Nazi regime had been defeated in direct combat and it was the beginning of their eventual defeat  in the Second World War. However, how was this near “miracle” achieved ,apart from the great bravery of the RAF pilots? Well a lot of the credit must go to the commander of the RAF’S Fighter Command, Air Chief Marshal  Hugh Dowding who was a commited Spirtualist!  Hugh Dowding had himself been a brave fighter pilot in the British Army’s Royal Flying Corps in the First World War .  He had become a Spiritualist in the late 1930s in an attempt to contact his deceased first wife. The question that has arisen in my mind ,did his new spiritual  experiences equip him with the right knowledge to help stop the Nazi menace within mainland Europe, spread across and then dominate the world . With his  seniority within the RAF ,he was the right person ,in the right place and the right time.  Those facts would have been known to the spiritual dimension. The Royal Flying Corps were the main parent Corps of the new Royal Air Force which was just formed after the First World War. He transferred to the new RAF from the Royal Flying Corps as soon as the  new force was formed. He worked his way up the ranks and at the outbreak of World War II ,he had achieved the rank of Air Chief Marshall which was the equivalent of an Army General or Navy Admiral. His contribution to the RAF’s victory in the Battle of Britain cannot be underestimated. Not only prior to outbreak  of World War II ,he insisted on as many Spitfire and Hurricane fighter aircraft  being built as quickly in the time available, but he also devised a new set of defense tactics which was known as the Dowding System.  Briefly this system married up the new invention of radar and it’s information with the resources available, planes , men etc. It then  co-ordinated this and got the right orders out to every airbase and air squadron in Southern England so that every plane that could be in the air in the right place to intercept and shoot down the as many hostile enemy planes as possible.  This was a revoluntary system which enabled the vastly outnumbered and outgunned RAF to defeat the then world’s most powerful airforce. I am of the opinion that his spiritual knowledge inspired him to make the important decisions that he did. Perhaps he was even guided somehow? Hugh Dowding  after he retired  from the RAF went public about his spiritualist beliefs and wrote several books on the subject. He also was made a Baron for his outstanding contribution to the War effort, which allowed him to be a member of the House Of Lords in the British Parliament. He made speeches there about spiritualism  amongst other subjects. He was aware that this drew ridicule from many people, but he never wavered from his spiritualist beliefs. He married for a second time Muriel Whiting, who was also a well known spiritualist and animal rights campaigner who founded Beauty Without Cruelty. This is now a world wide organisation that promotes cosmetics that do not use animal testing.       A PICTURE OF HUGH DOWDING AND ONE OF THE VICTORIOUS FIGHTER PLANES UNDER HIS COMMAND, WHICH HEADED ONE OF MANY ARTICLES HIGHTLIGHTING HIS ACHIEVEMENTS.   The famous  wartime British Prime Minister Winston Churchill said of the Dowding System after the Battle of Britain had been won.  “All the ascendancy of the Hurricanes  and Spitfires would have been fruitless but for this system which had been devised and built before the war. It had been shaped and refined in constant action, and all was now fused together into a most elaborate instrument of war, the like of which existed nowhere in the world.”   Some people would say it was purely a coincidence that he was a spiritualist and a brilliant air commander and his own knowledge and ability made enabled him to make the correct decisions. However the wartime British Prime Minister Winston Churchill (Dowding’s political boss) is documented with mystic abilities also! When I was working on another article, a surprising fact that came out of my research into Churchill’s possible mystic activities, It was that an old school  friend of his, claimed Churchill had a future premonition of  the World Wars in the forthcoming century whilst at school and his own significant involvement in them, especially the Second World War! The school friend was called Murland De Grasse Evans and he stated whilst they were at  the elite British private school Harrow together, the seventeen-year-old  Churchill in 1891 said that he had prophetic dreams about the future and his role in it. He saw great upheavals in the coming century. He mentioned “wars such as one cannot imagine” .  Murland De Grasse Evans told this to Randolph Churchill,  the son of Winston Churchill, who later wrote Churchill’s official biography. This experience is also documented in other biographies. Evans later in life became the Reverend Evans, a minister  in the Church of England, so was unlikely was to have invented this experience. Since 1815 and the defeat of Napoleon , the British had been involved in colonial wars and played a supporting role in Crimean War, but these wars could not be compared to the enormity and scale of the two World Wars, so this was beyond the lucky speculation of a precocious  seventeen-year-old. In addition to this, Churchill also said that he would occupy “a high position and would save London and England from disasters.” He also said, “it would fall to me to save the Capital and save the Empire.” Although Winston Churchill was born into an extremely wealthy and influential family and attended one of the most prestigious  fee-paying schools in Britain , he was not considered academically gifted and left the school early as he was not expected to attend university ,which he never did. Therefore, to have stated such a future for himself would have invited ridicule if he was fantasizing  about his future. It is  therefore extremely likely he was confident that this was not a  mere dream, but a genuine vision of the future. Churchill was, despite many career setbacks and sometimes lucky escapes from near fatal incidents , famous for his self- confidence in his destiny. This  points to a genuine-predictive vision of the future and a possible  reason for his interest in clairvoyant and mystical abilities. Perhaps a Nostradamus style self- prophecy helped save the civilized world?   Apart from his key role as British  Prime Minister in World War Two ,he also was a   senior British government minister , during World War One . Before that, he was a British Army Officer who fought in the Sudan War. He then became a  famous journalist that during the South African War who was captured by enemy forces and then staged a daring escape and trekked through hostile territory back to safety. This dramatic incident made him internationally famous and helped propel him into a successful career in British politics. His almost reckless disregard for his personal safety , appears to demonstrate he knew he was on a pathway to live a long life to fulfil the destiny that had been revealed to him as a seventeen-year-old. He also seemed to be deliberately accumulating the skills he needed to fulfil the task ahead. Military experience ,journalistic experience to help influence public opinion and finally political experience to help him gain the “high position” to help save his country as the vision he received predicted. Churchill during his adult life knew and socialized with many mystics and spiritualists of the time. For example, Arthur Conan Doyle the creator of the Sherlock Holmes stories and also  “The Lost World” and many other famous books was a well- known spiritualist and a good friend of Churchill. Churchill when he was Prime Minister during World War II also intervened to try to stop the trial of Helen Duncan who at that time was Britain’s most famous medium. She at a public séance revealed the sinking of the Royal Navy ship the HMS Barham, days before the news had been revealed to the public. She stood trial for Witchcraft. Churchill  was unsuccessful in stopping  this trial ,where she was found guilty and served a brief period of imprisonment. It was the last British witchcraft trial and the absurdity of the proceedings against an ordinary medium caused the Witchcraft Act of 1735 to be repealed soon after World War II. Why did a Prime Minister of a country involved in a war of national survival take time out to try to stop a trial of a minor offence? Perhaps he thought a woman of such mystical ability would be useful to the war effort! If so, it demonstrates that Churchill certainly  thought that such a potential ability could not be ignored. However , another notable mystical event happened to Churchill in his time after his election defeat in 1945 after World War II. In 1947 he was painting  in his home art studio (a favorite hobby of himself) when according to his own account, he was visited by the spirit of his father who had been dead over fifty years! Apparently his father’s spirit appeared sitting in a chair in the studio and they had a long discussion about events since his father’s passing! It had such a dramatic  effect on him, he apparently described the whole episode to his gathered family at dinner soon after. They were intrigued by his story and one of them suggested he wrote it down and published it for a wider audience. He did just that in the form of a short novel, called “The Dream.” It was by his own admission a fictionalized version of the event , no doubt leaving out some personal details, but he still claimed the visit by his father’s spirit did occur, to his family. “The Dream” was not published until 1966 a year after Churchill’s death ,no doubt because of the potential controversy of  a former revered Prime Minister implying he was visited by his long dead father! There is one other outstanding predictive event also in Churchill’s long and eventful life to recount though. On the 24th of January 1953 , Winston Churchill by then serving his second term of office as British Prime Minister, remarked to his private secretary that it was the anniversary of his father’s death in 1895. He then added he himself would die on the same date. Twelve years later, on the 24th of January 1965 after a lengthy illness he did just that. Did his father bring him that knowledge or was it another prophetic experience of this exceptional visionary man? As mystics we know that a lot of the ”the Other Side” cannot be explained this side of the “veil.” However, we have comfort that there is more to existence than our short physical lives. So, did the spiritual dimension intervene to ensure victory for the Allied War effort and eventual victory? Well Hugh Dowding and Winston Churchill are only two mystically inclined high- ranking people we know of; there may have been more who did not want to relate their experiences for fear of ridicule. However, I think the Divine , Providence , God, the Eternal Law or whatever you prefer to call it did intervene because it was a unique situation in the history of the world. Although there had been terrible wars previously and cruel oppressive empires, this was the first-time humankind had the chance to destroy the whole world or an oppressive empire to dominate or conquer the entire world. For either to happen would have been the end of humankind or freedom of action and spiritual practice throughout the world. Not only was the atomic bomb being developed in Britain and America, but also Nazi Germany as well and they at one point in the war were ahead in their research. Also, the anthrax bomb the world’s first Biological Weapon of Mass Destruction had already been developed. If this had been used by Germany and its allies it could have led to them using it against any enemy and ensuring the German victory and Nazi world domination. As mystics we know that the spiritual dimension exists and I believe on this occasion intervened on behalf of the “side” which presented less cruelty and harm to the world. By contacting and inspiring highly placed and influential people on the Allied “side” it tipped the balance in favour of the Allied victory. But what of now and the future? Weapons are more destructive than ever and much of the world is still  lead by spiritually/mystically unaware leaders like Kim and Putin. Mysticism appears to have helped save the world in World War II, but perhaps it is time mystics in this life  took action too. Mysticism and direct spiritual experience must become mainstream. The “well it is all a matter of Faith” approach of conventional religions ,does not by  obviously work to prevent war. People not just in the modern world , but I believe even in times past , needed proof of a spiritual dimension. This borne out by the huge amount of direct spiritual experiences  in the Bible and other religions’ holy books. The despiritualization of conventional religions in post- Biblical times  is not only the reason for faith only religions losing members in the modern age. In past times the lack of  actual spiritual contact outside the ancient holy writings of whatever  religion, led national leaders to ignore their teachings when it was convenient to do so. Especially if you were a country’s ruler  when you wanted to take over another country’s land and wealth by means of war!. Perhaps by intervening in World War II and leaving evidence of it by two well placed  and high-profile participants admitting their mysticism, the mystical dimension was  helping us at a time when humankind could have wiped itself out or be put itself into permanent slavery. Perhaps It was also warning us in the future ,that  unless real spirituality becomes part of the world’s culture we could face extinction or a cruel world beyond current comprehension. So, it is up to us mystics to change things . We are already inspired by our knowledge of the spiritual dimension and the afterlife which every human being is on the path. We know that our current physical existence is just a passing phase and the power and wealth accumulated in it counts for nothing ,if it is done to the detriment of our fellow human beings . We also know from history that war has caused misery from the first ancient civilizations onward. Just about the time when ancient  state organized religions hijacked personal spirituality and very often banned personal spiritual contact unless by an approved state priest. Therefore, we must bring mysticism out into the open. It must be promoted at every possible opportunity . It is nothing to be ashamed of. We know that direct spiritual contact and proof is possible through contact with our departed loved ones who bring back details of lives and character that no medium could reasonably  guess at .We also know that great spiritual teachers in  the past from most religions wanted a peaceful world and for us to love our neighbour as ourselves. It is only the doubt of a spiritual dimension that inspired these teachings ,that stop most humans from striving to achieve these ideals. Mysticism can remove those doubts.
