Patrice Watley Williams/Poetic Lyricist
Freedom to Write
A dream to be
Successful and free
Me, who am I?
Or did I die?
The sounds of new tomorrows
If there is a tomorrow
Clouds in my night
And nights in my day
All intertwined together
I get confused on which is which
Words from down in my soul
Feel so cold, like I’ve been here before
Blood running through my veins
Am I insane?
Or is it the pain that I feel, is it real?
Then back on top of the world, so surreal
Letters to God to free us all
I’m sure he’s listening to my constant call
A natural instinct to pen this paper
Where my heart feels safer
A free spirit, intriguingly guarded
I pour it all out for me, for you
No longer searching for my purpose
Because God has given me the gift and freedom to write.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
All in Black & White
I’m hanging up my tights
No longer having to fight
A natural at what I do
For us, for you
Writing through my spirit
Recognizing the luxury of having words to express
All in black and white
Amazing messages relevant to all
Spectacular struggles and triumphs
A silver lining, not to overachieve
Creating experimental portraits in the mind
Transmitting to paper
To capture the core and significance of living
Running fast to catch up with every letter
Every sound, every word
To extend what I see
To broaden what I’ve heard
To contribute to what I feel
Loving the sense of belonging
And seeing it All in Black & White
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Racial Indifference
We see and then…we don’t
We hear and then…we don’t
We do and then…we don’t
Our culture often has no justice
When we judge one another
From the beginning of time
Instead of leaving this behavior behind.
Going the distance
But still not a world of equal justice.
We inhale the same air…
The same sunlight covers our bodies…
And brings a different tone to our skin
The same shadow hovers over us
And brings back our unique color tone
Yes our cultures are different and…
There are those among us that won’t acknowledge
There is racial indifference among us
Some of us want to love and bond equally
But our society makes it difficult to do
We cannot continue to pretend it’s just me and you
Fighting the struggle is hard enough to do
Alone, wake up, we don’t have to.
To be broken is to heal
To feel your heart mending to reveal
Your true hearts desire
We are strangers to one another’s culture
We always need more grace in our face
To keep us grounded in faith.
We say we love the Lord and all that he stands for
But we repay him by differentiating and condemning,
Not loving unconditionally.
He created us all equally in the likeness of him
Though we as judgmental creatures,
Untouched by his sacrificing love
We pray to live in the likeness of him
But the opposite is what we portray.
The sound of gentle rain filling our hearts
Then the mystery of sudden despair
People; open your eyes in exchange for the divine.
