MYSTIC LIVING TODAY
REMEMBERING WHO WE ARE
LIVING IN SILENCE AND STILLNESS
We come together again within the pages of Mystic Living Today to contemplate how our life’s journey
becomes a more spiritual one. Since the first of the year, my life has centered around the sacred themes
of Silence and Stillness. I hope that by sharing these ideas with you, you too will increasingly become
quieter within as you enter the deep silence and stillness that is such a foundational and necessary part
Come into this quiet with me.
How rare these qualities can seem in our daily lives filled with others to care for, jobs to accomplish, and
too many outer activities even to make sense of each day. Chaos and difficult challenges may seem the
norm. In addition to these personal challenges, we are confronted by all the negative news about all
that is happening in our world today that deeply affects us.
During the time you read this and afterward, let’s take a few steps back into your sacred center within.
Breathe deeply and allow your whole body and your whole being to relax. Breathe deeply again and
again until your mind becomes quiet. As you do so, remember that first and foremost, you are a sacred
being having ordinary experiences. As you release all the outer concerns, even for a few minutes, this
remembrance changes your story.
Now focus on the space of your heart, breathing in and out from your golden and radiant heart center –
your sanctuary within that offers peace, stillness, and ever-deepening silence. Your heart center is your
true home, your sacred sanctuary within, a resting place in which you open to all your guides, to your
true potential and sacred possibilities. It is here that your story becomes one in which you are deeply
connected to that which of the highest for you and your life. Through sacred silence and stillness, you
enter your soul realm. Your community becomes that of saints, angels, and other ascended beings. You
are enveloped in loving embrace, and you know that you are one with them. This realm is one of awe
and wonder. It is your heart’s home and it is always available to you.
The 13th-century mystic/poet Rumi reminds us that “When I am silent, I fall into a place where
everything is music. Everything is made of love”.
In this sacred stillness, we open and receive. We receive the highest in any given moment. It may be a
softening that we wear throughout the rest of the day. It may be a message from on high that provides
the solution to a problem. It may be an explosion of beauty in the simplest of acts – a spontaneous
deepening of loving, just the right words to calm an angry child or an awakening to the extreme beauty
of the sunrise this day. The possibilities are infinite. And perhaps it is as simple, as the healing that
comes with entering deep peace as a counterbalance to a busy day. Then when you return to other
parts of your day, you may find that you are handling all tasks from a quieter, more trusting, and secure
place. When this happens, of course, your ways change the story for those around you as well.
In this realm, all we need to do is breathe deeply into relaxation, focus our awareness on our precious
sacred heart, open to all the graceful possibilities that are within you and receive.
Such a practice, daily, can take just a few minutes and you might want to create space to enter this
realm for longer meditations. You will find that the results will build upon themselves. You may want to
record what happens in your journal.
