There is, in truth, a technology of the soul. The evolution of the soul and of consciousness is not a
haphazard occurrence, but rather an orderly chain of events that we, human beings, can go through if we
so desire. But soul evolution is not automatic, i.e., it is not an automatic process like biological evolution.
This is because we human beings have Free Will and once we have reached a certain stage of
development, we can only progress along the Spiritual Pathway by conscious choice. This is the Order of
the Universe. Thus, the advance along the Spiritual Pathway, which includes the expansion of
consciousness and the pursuit of enlightenment, is a conscious choice.
Soul evolution and the expansion of consciousness are a definite process that can be identified,
defined, described and applied. We know this is so because the process has been demonstrated to us
by many of the world’s great spiritual teachers and Masters. They have shown us, without a shadow
of a doubt, that progressing along the Spiritual Pathway is a specific process. And in their teachings,
they have systemized this process for us and told us how to do it. In other words, they have described
the specific and definite steps we need to take to progress along the pathway—and they tell us in no
uncertain terms that if we take these steps, we are certain to get definite results.
This means that if you want to advance along the Spiritual Pathway, you can (and must) take definite
and specific steps to move forward. It also means that if you are waiting for enlightenment to just
happen to you, you are suffering from a serious misunderstanding as to what the Spiritual Pathway
involves. You should not and in fact, cannot “wait” for enlightenment to happen because enlightenment
is almost never an accidental occurrence. Rather enlightenment, for most of the few people who reach
that stage in their evolution, is the result of a conscious choice, constant study, diligent practice, and the
dedicated pursuit of this goal.
So I say to you, if you want to grow spiritually, if you want to progress along the Spiritual Pathway
and become a fully conscious, enlightened being, you can and should study this process and pursue
this goal—just as diligently as you would study and pursue any other goal or subject you wish to
master.
The Big Mind and the Little Mind
When talking about the Spiritual Pathway and enlightenment, it is a good idea to consider the difference
between the so-called “Big Mind” and the Little Mind. The Absolute—the Presence or Consciousness
that is Existence itself—is the Big Mind or the ONE Mind. In other words, the Ultimate Reality. While the
Little Mind, or the mind of the individual, refers to the individual’s use of this ONE Mind. Often this
“little” mind means our “human personalities”, which is the sum total of our programming, belief
systems, everyday thoughts and opinions. Some would call this our egos. But regardless of how we
define and try to understand this with our rational minds, the fact is that there is One Mind—only one
field of awareness which is the ONE Mind (the Greater Consciousness)—that we all are using. However,
most of us are not yet aware of this. But as we proceed along the “Spiritual Pathway”, we begin to catch
glimpses of this… and the experience or realization – however brief – can be amazingly blissful!
