The Jewish Psychic Who Predicted Hitler’s Rise To Power.   By Stephen William, author of: ”Nostradamus His Prophecy Finally Explained.” Available on Amazon Kindle now   Exploring the enigmatic figure who foresaw Adolf Hitler’s rise.   Whilst I was researching another project , I came across  Erik Jan Hanussen, a name shrouded in mystery and controversy,  who stands as one of the most intriguing characters in the history of interwar Europe.  He  is now virtually forgotten in the English-speaking world and that is why I thought  the readers of Mystic Living  Today may be interested  n my rediscovery of him . As the title of this article suggests he led a strange mystical life ,but also a dangerous one. Known as a clairvoyant, hypnotist, and occultist, Hanussen carved out an unusual niche for himself in interwar Germany, ultimately becoming a figure closely associated with Adolf Hitler and his meteoric rise to power. This article delves into Hanussen’s life, his uncanny predictions for Hitler, and the eventual dramatic downfall of this enigmatic prophet. Before I go any further I should put out a caveat or caution. Hanussen was a successful show business star and great self -publicist . This has led  some professional mystic skeptics to conclude he was just a fraud. However they believe that every mystic, medium ,psychic etc. is a fraud ! We as mystics know we are not frauds through the experiences we have had . However we know some of our fellow mystics (especially if they are high-profile) sometimes exaggerate their accomplishments. Bear that in mind  when reading about Hanussen’s life. I have though filtered out some of the more obvious exaggerations as  much as I could. THE NEWSSHEET THAT HANUSSEN  PUBLISHED AT THE HEIGHT OF HIS FAME. THE TITLE IN ENGLISH MEANS “THE CONSULTATION HOUR ” AS YOU HAVE WITH A DOCTOR OR THERAPIST.  HE LIKED TO PRESENT HIS WORK AND PREDICTIONS AS A FORM OF THERAPY  FOR HIS READER AT THE AGE OF TWENTY HANUSSEN APPARENTLY WAS A REPORTER FOR A GERMAN NEWSPAPER BEFORE HE WAS DRAFTED INTO THE GERMAN ARMY IN THE  YEARS OF WORLD WAR ONE. OBVIOUSLY THIS  NEWSPAPER EXPERIENCE  HELPED HIM PRODUCE THESE  NEWSSHEETS. WHEN HANUSSEN ENTERED THE GERMAN ARMY HE IS SUPPOSED TO ENTERTAINED THE GERMAN TROOPS WITH HIS THEATRICAL SKILLS WHICH INCLUDED A VERY CONVINCING “MIND READING” ACT. AFTER THE WORLD WAR ONE THIS TALENT ALLOWED HIM TO HAVE  A SUCCESSFUL SHOWBUSINESS CAREER.       ERIK JAN HANUSSEN WHEN HE WAS A FAMOUS PSYCHIC AND SHOW BUSINESS PERFORMER. HE BECAME VERY WEALTHY FROM THIS CAREER. Hanussen was born Hermann Steinschneider on June 2, 1889, in Vienna, Austria, into a Jewish theatrical  family, The family came from Moravia originally.    Hanussen grew up with his parents touring  Austria and Italy in theatrical troupes. As a young man, he displayed an extraordinary talent for theatrics and persuasion, qualities that would later define his career as a performer and self-proclaimed clairvoyant. Adopting the pseudonym Erik Jan Hanussen, he reinvented himself as a Danish aristocrat, a move that helped him gain credibility and elude potential anti-Semitic scrutiny in a rapidly changing political climate. Hanussen’s post-war career began with his performances as a stage hypnotist and mentalist. He astounded audiences with demonstrations of mind-reading, hypnosis, and predictions of future events. His charisma and ability to captivate crowds earned him fame, and he became a household name in Germany during the 1920s and early 1930s. HANUSSEN BECAME THE TOP ATTRACTION AT THE  SCALA, BERLIN’S MOST GLAMOUROUS THEATER . HE SOMETIMES APPEARED BEFORE COMBINED AUDIENCES OF 5000 PER DA Hanussen and the Rise of Hitler As Adolf Hitler emerged as a force within German politics, Hanussen’s path intersected with the future Führer’s. By the early 1930s, Hanussen was offering private séances and consultations to prominent figures, including members of the Nazi Party. Fascinated by the occult and seeking insights into their political fortunes, many high-ranking Nazis were drawn to Hanussen’s abilities. The leader of the Berlin  Nazi Brownshirts ,Karl Ernst was amongst them. Eventually  Adolf Hitler himself sought guidance and  appeared to take Hanussen’s predictions seriously. This may seem strange a Jewish psychic  immersing himself in close Nazi political association. However as a member of the world’s most persecuted race , it may have been second nature to adopt a radical survival strategy. Hanussen did not have to be  psychic to realise that the Nazis hated Jews and perhaps by making himself useful to them he thought they may see Jews as ordinary and helpful human beings. Money making  cannot be the only factor in his close association with them as he was already  rich and famous. Perhaps his fame and popularity with the German public made him think he could be a “bridge” between German Jews and the increasingly popular but antisemitic Nazi Party. Even though he apparently converted to Protestant Christianity he would have still been seen as racially a Jew and so would his two children. Perhaps he also thought his own psychic foresight would enable him to foresee any threats to his or his family’s personal safety? Hanussen is said to have foretold Hitler’s ascendancy to power with remarkable accuracy. One of his most significant predictions reportedly occurred during a séance in 1932, was when he declared that Hitler would become Germany’s Chancellor within a year. His prophecy came true on January 30, 1933, when Hitler was appointed Chancellor of Germany. The timing and precision of Hanussen’s forecast further cemented his reputation as a clairvoyant of extraordinary skill, though his methods and true intentions remain subject to debate. Hanussen earlier in his life had written two booklets  saying that psychic prediction and similar practices were trickery, however he then obviously revised that opinion. I myself was scornful  of mystic practices until I had a dramatically accurate reading from a medium. Now I am a medium myself! Writing in Mystic Living Today! Perhaps Hanussen had a similar dramatic demonstration of the reality of mysticism? He then also may have tried to develop his own latent psychic abilities. Occultism played a peculiar role in the shaping of Nazi ideology, with many members of the party displaying an interest in mystical practices and esoteric philosophies. Hanussen capitalized on this fascination, aligning his predictions and performances with the aspirations of the Nazi leadership. He reportedly taught Hitler techniques in public speaking, helping him refine his ability to mesmerize crowds—a skill that proved instrumental in his political success. Yet the Nazis with their totally materialistic and cruel outlook on life ,did not realise that trying to use the spiritual dimension to achieve such cruel and evil ambitions to dominate the world and eliminate entire races, was never going to happen. History  now shows us they did not. This perhaps a warning to all spiritually aware people to avoid obviously evil people even if you think that they may enhance your profile or offer you added wealth. Hanussen also operated a lavish palace in Berlin, known as the "Palace of the Occult," where he hosted séances, theatrical performances, and gatherings for Germany’s elite. The palace became a hub for high-ranking Nazis, further entrenching Hanussen’s influence within their inner circle. His ability to weave occult predictions with political aspirations made him a valuable, albeit controversial, figure. Despite his close association with the Nazi leadership, Hanussen’s Jewish heritage and his role as a manipulative clairvoyant eventually led to his downfall. By 1933, rumours about his ancestry,  began to circulate amongst lower ranking Nazis, raising unease among prominent Nazis. Additionally, Hanussen’s growing influence and his knowledge of Nazi plans made him a potential liability. His knowledge of the private lives of high-ranking Nazis may have also made them nervous , He had lent money to some of them to finance their high spending lifestyles and was more than likely to have known of their promiscuous activities with younger members of their organisation, often behind their wives back. The other most famous prediction he made came on 26 th February 1933 when predicted the burning down of the Reichstag  building  (the Reichstag was the German equivalent of the American Congress ) during a séance at The Palace of the Occult. The very next day the Reichstag was indeed set on fire! The arson was blamed on Communists and a Dutchman Martin Van Lubbe was executed for it. However it was believed the leader of the Berlin Brownshirts , Karl Ernst knew of Van Lubbe’s intentions  and ensured that not only he started the fire, but a squad of Brownshirts added to it to ensure massive destruction. In March 1933, Hanussen’s life came to an abrupt and violent end. He was arrested and assassinated under mysterious circumstances, likely at the hands of the SA (Sturmabteilung), the Nazi paramilitary “Brownshirt” organisation. His body was discovered buried in a forest outside Berlin. Though the precise motives for his murder remain unclear, it is widely believed that the Nazis eliminated him to silence any potential threats he posed to their regime. The story of Erik Jan Hanussen continues to captivate historians, supernatural enthusiasts, and conspiracy theorists alike especially in Central German speaking Europe. Was he truly gifted with clairvoyant abilities, or was he simply a master manipulator who leveraged political chaos to gain personal power? Was his prediction of Hitler’s rise genuine, or did he simply calculate the trajectory of Germany’s political landscape with shrewd insight? I think he was a genuine mystic psychic, because of his confidence to be able to take such a dangerous gamble on mixing with the violent and evil Nazi leaders . If he were a mere trickster or charlatan ,he would have been aware of the almost certain event of being found out . His confidence he had a genuine predictive ability may have as mentioned previously made him believe he could foresee any coming danger.  Even before they came to power the Nazis were known to have killed or severely harmed their perceived “enemies” with their vast army of  street thugs (400,000 members at one time) , the S.A. or as they are more famously known the “Brownshirts”. The fact that they were his likely executioners is probably because the previously mentioned  Karl Ernst the leader of the  Berlin S.A. Brownshirts, was believed to be behind the torching or the burning down of the Reichstag. Whatever advantages his insights were giving the Nazis ,his ability was now threatening to expose their evil intentions and he had to be disposed of.   Hanussen’s legacy is a complex one, blending elements of performance, mysticism, and political intrigue. His life remains a cautionary tale about the dangers of intertwining personal ambition with political extremism, as well as the enduring allure of the supernatural in times of upheaval. Conclusion Erik Jan Hanussen’s predictions for Adolf Hitler stand as one of the most enigmatic chapters in the history of the Third Reich. A man of extraordinary charisma and dubious morality, Hanussen navigated the murky waters of interwar Germany with a combination of theatrical flair and calculated risk. His rise and fall serve as a testament to the volatile and unpredictable nature of political power, as well as the enduring fascination humanity holds for the mystical and the unknown. While his life was cut short, his story continues to resonate, offering a glimpse into the peculiar intersection of prophecy and politics during one of history’s darkest periods.
