![]() Tim Ray and Barbara Berger In these times with so much division, conflict, hostility, and the brutal and harsh tone in the public debate, it can be a really good idea to try and counterbalance all this negativity by regularly dwelling on something that can soothe the energy and the collective consciousness on Planet Earth. We can do this by dwelling on something more basic and fundamental – namely what we human beings – what all human beings – have in common. To do this, my son, Tim Ray, has for many years been practicing what he calls the “Heathrow Airport Meditation”. The first time Tim did this meditation was many years ago, while he was sitting in Heathrow Airport outside London, watching the seemingly endless stream of people arriving and departing from all four corners of the earth and making their way through the busy airport terminal. That was when Tim asked himself: “What do I have in common with all these people here at Heathrow Airport – and as a matter of fact with all human beings on Planet Earth – without any distinction? In other words, regardless of whether the person is a man or woman, an adult or a child, regardless of the person’s race, color or nationality, regardless of the person’s sexual orientation, regardless of their age and physicality, regardless of whether the person is sick or healthy, regardless of whether the person is rich or poor, regardless of their political affiliation, religion, and life situation, regardless of everything and anything?” And then it came to Tim: “We all live here on the same Planet Earth, we all walk the same earth, we all breathe the same air … we all have physical bodies that were once born and some day will die and dissolve … we all get hungry and have to eat, we all get thirsty and have to drink … we all have to go to the bathroom … we all have to sleep somewhere … we all wear clothes … we’re all in relationships with other human beings and have to figure out how to relate to them … we all have to work to make money and survive … we’re all sexual beings and have to deal with that … we can all feel physical discomfort and pain … we’re all fumbling and bumbling and trying as best we can to hang in there … we can all get sad and depressed … and all of us have something that we like to do, something that makes us happy, something that we love … and we all want to be happy and no one wants to suffer, and yes basically, everything we do is fundamentally motivated by this …” And so on and so on … Tim realized that once you get started you can just go on and on, and you realize that we human beings have so much more in common than the things that we believe separate us. And by this Tim didn’t mean that we shouldn’t at the same time respect and appreciate our differences and the infinite diversity of human beings which also is part of what makes this Earth Life so much fun. My son Tim (and I myself) have been doing this meditation regularly for many years and it’s really quite powerful no matter what you are doing. It’s also interesting to notice that if you find yourself in situations where you feel insecure or nervous, this meditation, this focus and understanding, can really help you calm down. Nothing helps us open our hearts more than to focus on our common humanity. The ”Heathrow Airport Meditation” is also a wonderful focus you can use if you are joining our 10 minutes meditation for World Peace every day. With love from one human being to another from Tim and Barbara in Copenhagen! PS The meditation is also described in detail in Tim’s exciting spiritual adventure novels “Starbrow” and “Starwarrior” as well as in his book “101 Relationship Myths”.
