CRITICISM OF MYSTICISM. SOME ANSWERS TO SKEPTICAL QUESTIONS OF MYSTICISM. By Stephen William. THE LAST SCIENTIFIC PAPER HAWKING WROTE BEFORE HIS UNFORTUNATE DEATH SUPPORTED THE EXISTENCE OF A MULTIVERSE WHICH WOULD HAVE DIFFERENT DIMENSIONS OF EXISTENCE WITHIN IT. THIS OPENS AN EXPLANATION OF THE AFTERLIFE WITHIN ONE OF THOSE DIMENSIONS  TO PERSISTANT CRITICS OF SPIRTUALITY ,WHO DEMAND A SCIENTIFIC REASON FOR SPIRITUALITY.   One of the problems many  mystical people have, even lifelong experienced mediums is answering persistent questions from people who are not only skeptical of mysticism, but even conventional religions as well. The following questions ,with some suggested answers may help you answer confidently when your abilities are questioned and the whole concept of spirituality is doubted. “I ACCEPT MEDIUMS CAN MAKE TRUTHFUL PERSONAL PREDICTIONS TO INDIVIDUALS SOMEHOW,  SO WHY CANNOT THEY  MAKE “GREAT” PREDICTIONS ,   LIKE NOSTRADAMUS , SO WE CAN AVOID DISASTERS?” Nostradamus stood out in his own time, compared to other mystics of that era. So, it appears to be a rare form of mediumship and curiously not one in great demand. I, as a medium have never been approached by anyone who has asked ,when or  ever will World War Three break out, whether robots/computers will take over world, will we  ever contact a civilization from another planet and when,  etc. People desire and get the information that they need to either help with or make sense of their lives. “Great” predictions do not actually help them. Also, such  predictions, may be for  hundreds of years in the future, such as Nostradamus’s ,  therefore could never be proven in our lifetimes . If a disaster were foreseen and  action taken to prevent it, cynics would say the prediction was incorrect as it never happened ! Predictions or prophecies have  “to come to pass” or they are not predictions ! “TIME TRAVEL BY ANY MEANS IS IMPOSSIBLE, WHETHER PHYSICALLY OR MENTALLY, THEREFORE YOU CANNOT SEE THE FUTURE OR HAVE PREMONITIONS  ” This sounds as if it has scientific basis, but surprisingly it does not! Scientists are divided on how time works. Some believe it is linear i.e. the past is  forever gone and the future has yet to exist. Yet a growing body believe it is cyclical i.e. it exists in a cycle , so the past, the present or the  now and the future all exist simultaneously  on different points of the same cycle.   Scientific new theories are constantly being proposed and  then disputed by other scientists. However cyclical time seem to be gaining the upper hand. Albert Einstein himself with his Theory of Relativity proposed that time could be warped , slowed or speeded in various situations , which has now been confirmed by experiments since.  The concept of physical time travel is debated  by physicists  and divides into two camps , those who believe it may be possible and those who do not. Consequently, there is no clear consensus on it. However , mediums and psychics are consulted by millions of people world- wide every year and  personal predictions are given to them which very often come true, even if they are unexpected and the person has not “tried” to make them come true. This demonstrates  on some level the future can be viewed.   With this form of answer the skeptic has their supposed “logic” undermined. It does not have a proven scientific  basis and  is merely their opinion. In fact it is no more valid than yours and you have the comfort of knowing your view is correct by proof you have experienced yourself. “ MY RELIGION WILL NOT ACCEPT MEDIUMSHIP, CHANNELING, CONTACT WITH THE DECEASED ETC. AS AN ACCEPTABLE FORM OF SPIRITUAL PRACTICE. THERFORE  I  CANNOT ACCEPT ANY PROOF OF IT ”. So why do they not discreetly visit a medium ? Freedom of will in spiritual matters , which we all have , means they can decide on whether the information they receive is from a “good” source or not. Even if they are still unsure of the “goodness” of the source, at least they will know for certain there is a spiritual dimension (most religions have a belief in a supernatural element and an afterlife) and their belief in the divine facet of existence is not a “fairy tale for adults”  as cynics often taut religious people. They do not have to become a spiritualist or visit a  medium again, but at least they will know in an increasingly atheistic world  , they have a belief based on a tangible reality and it will probably strengthen their religious conviction. Try this approach with the  kind of person who questions your form of spiritual practice. I AM A TOTAL RATIONALIST , THERE IS NO PROOF OF ALTERNATIVE “DIMENSIONS” TO OUR REALITY SPIRITUAL, OR OTHERWISE.” Alternative Dimensions ,  Different Universes, the Multiverse Theory etc. have been theorized for over a century by many leading physicists. This idea that there are realms of existence other to the physical Universe we can observe through a telescope, has a respectable scientific pedigree . There is no one proven theory on this subject, but some of the currently  well - respected theories point towards other Dimensions/Universes existing and  having probably different laws of physics to our Universe. Time, gravity etc. would be probably different to our concept of it . So, if we can contact  beings from one of these other dimensions, they could possibly see our future, without  defying the laws of physics of their dimension or universe. if  beings  from such another dimension could see our Dimension /Universe  our time, past ,present and future could be seen perhaps on a simultaneous basis ? . Hence , the future  could be predicted from contact with such a place. If in the Multiverse Theory there are many different Dimensions/ Universes which are different to ours in function, it is perfectly plausible for a spiritual dimension to exist in such a scenario. Unlikely, some may say. However, to most people who have not made an intense study of Astrophysics , the Multiverse Theory sounds very unlikely as well! Various leading physicists however believe it to be likely. The last paper Professor Stephen Hawking prepared for publication  before he unfortunately died ,was in favour of the Multiverse Theory. Perhaps the predictions  and contacts made by mediums  at  least show that time is not linear  i.e., time moving forward in a straight line where the past is instantly lost and the future does not exist and there is just a constant now . As mentioned, Albert Einstein himself believed time is malleable and this has been proven in various experiments. Perhaps physicists should cooperate with mediums to broaden their knowledge? “MANY CONVENTIONAL RELIGIOUS FOLK OF WHATEVER RELIGION THEY BELONG TO SPEND A LOT OF TIME PRAYING OR MEDITATING. WHY DO THEY NOT HAVE  CONTACT FROM SPIRIT GUIDES, DECEASED RELATIVES OR FRIENDS ETC.?” How do you know they do not!? Or perhaps some dismiss such contact as “against” their religious teachings and therefore block or ignore such contact . Various Biblical  figures were visited by passed people or “angels” (which merely means messenger) than  God Himself? Much of this was after the Book of Leviticus “ban” on such contact. Why was such contact then included in the Bible then , but now wrong? Very often people say a passed relative or partner’s presence is experienced in various ways without the assistance of a medium. Some skeptics will say this is “repressed grief” or some such “psychobabble” but in some cases the sincerity of their feelings and descriptions of the experience point to a genuine contact. Also if they believe in existence of a spiritual dimension to life, why would it not occur? In addition to this many practicing Christians ,Jews, Hindus, Sikhs etc either visit Spiritual Mediums or Spiritual Churches, yet continue to visit their conventional places of worship. In most cases they say it validates their belief in a spiritual dimension or Afterlife and gives them comfort and confidence to defend their religious teachings. There are sometimes” more questions than answers” as an old song once said  to spirituality and as a  mystical person you are on a journey of spiritual discovery yourself . Therefore you cannot answer every question. So if someone keeps pestering with you with inane questions go on the attack and question what would satisfy their inquiries. If they say “nothing,” you may have to review your acquaintance with them! Otherwise tell them to go and try direct spiritual experience with a mystic unknown to yourself and report back what they experienced.
