In these challenging times, it’s so importance that we all keep our energy high – and not just so that we can feel better – but also so that we can be beacons of Light and help lift the collective consciousness here on Planet Earth.
To do this, it’s important that each one of us has a daily program that helps us lift our energy and keep it high. Which means it’s not enough to just read good books or watch teachings online or go to lectures and workshops, we must put these ideas and concepts into practice in our daily lives. It’s not enough to read about meditation, we have to meditate. It’s not enough to talk about the power of our minds and the importance of focus tools, we have to use this information on a daily basis. It’s not enough to understand the importance of mindfulness; we have to practice being mindful. It’s not enough to know that we should investigate our beliefs and stories; we have to actually do it!
Here are some of the elements of a powerful, effective daily program. Each one of us has different needs, preferences and possibilities, so each person’s own personal daily program will of course depend on what is relevant and possible, also depending on how much time we each have.
A daily program can include:
- Gratitude (A gratitude journal, making gratitude lists, noticing the support)
- Meditation or a mindfulness practice (minimum 10-20 minutes a day)
- Contemplation (for example contemplating the Nature of Reality) or mental treatment (scientific prayer)
- Investigating our beliefs using the four questions of the Work of Byron Katie
- Reading and studying
- Going in nature
- Silence
- Dancing and singing to uplifting music
- Service (helping others—not for pay)
Important points to remember
When working with a daily program it is important to remember the following points:
- Practice regularly (every day).
- It’s better to do a little every day than to do a lot once in a while.
- Moderation.
- It’s better to do a little each day and be successful than to try to do a lot and give up because it’s too much.
- It’s important to design a program that fits your lifestyle and your daily life. (Be realistic).
- Be flexible. Some days we have more time and energy than other days, so our daily programs will naturally vary during the course of the week.
The process
When we start this process and begin to wake up to reality and become more conscious about the way the mind works, we are unleashing a radical and dramatic shift in our consciousness and lifestyle which will continue for the rest of our lives. When this happens, we can never go back to our old way of thinking, living and coping with life again. It’s like trying to put toothpaste back into the tube—it’s impossible! We have now set ourselves on a course towards increased freedom and joy—and there’s simply no turning back. So congratulations!
But this is not to say the journey will not be challenging. The reality is—the journey is challenging—and sometimes very challenging! Of course it’s different for everyone because everyone is different. Some people go through rapid and dramatic change, often because they’re in crisis already, while others move through the process much more slowly. And other people seem to advance in leaps and then remain at a certain plateau for years. So remember everyone is different and don’t judge what’s happening to you by comparing your process to other people’s processes. Your process is yours. Your journey is yours—and uniquely so.
Service
And finally, another good way to help ourselves and lift our consciousness is service or helping others! And by service and helping others, I mean “not-for-pay” activities, in other words, any activity where you give your time and energy to help other people for free.
As we wake up to reality, we come to see that all of Life is One, interconnected web and that we are all one family, so it is only natural to want to contribute and do something loving, kind, and helpful for others. We realize that by helping others, we are helping ourselves since we are all One! You could call this “enlightened selfishness”! But in reality, this is love in action. This is the love in our hearts expressing itself. This is our true nature, this is who we are. And when we do something for others—not for our own immediate, personal gain but from the love in our hearts—we always feel better, no matter how rotten we might have felt to begin with! Also dedicating some time to service is a good way to get the right perspective on our own problems and challenges. If you need to distract yourself and take a break from you—service is a great way to do it!
This is why service is part of the suggested daily program above. Doing something for others on a regular basis is definitely an enlightened way to feel better. So give it a try. Make up your mind to do something definite and concrete at least once a week to help someone else. And during the course of the day when the opportunity arises to assist another person, do it! Let’s let the goodness of our hearts flow! It’s the best medicine.
